Stanyl® TC: Bringing design freedom and weight reduction to high power LED lamps.

Stanyl® TC is a proven alternative to aluminium and ceramic in high power LED retrofit lamp housing, combining the design flexibility, durability and weight reduction properties of plastic with outstanding thermal management. Stanyl® TC can survive twisting and snapping that would damage metal and will not shatter like ceramic. Components can be made from the resin by injection molding widely used by industry.

Because Stanyl® TC is lighter than aluminium and ceramic it is particularly suited to larger lighting situations. The material can also be used as a heat sink, providing even greater thermal control offering system-wide cost reductions.

This thermally conductive material has been developed and tested to dissipate the heat generated by the LED sustainable light source, keeping internal temperatures low and safeguarding the efficiency and lifespan of the LED. Tests have shown just three degrees difference between an aluminium and Stanyl® TC version of the same lamp - well within industry requirements.

The material has been designed to withstand large fluctuations of temperature while maintaining structural integrity and complies with the flammability requirements of IEC and UL safety standards.

Switching from traditional lighting sources to high-power LEDs increases energy efficiency, longevity and sustainability. DSM Engineering Plastics and Philips recently teamed up to launch the Philips MASTER LED MR16, a 4W LED replacement for the low-voltage spot lamp that uses just 20% of the energy of a 20W Halogen MR16 lamp and lasts 40 times longer.

Bottom line: Stanyl® TC is helping designers and manufacturers develop a new generation of LED lighting products that cut energy waste and promote sustainability.
