Akulon realizes substantial productivity benefits
Akulon XP is a high productivity Polyamide 6 range with a unique set of processing characteristics that enable manufacturers to create efficiencies, driving productivity gains and cost savings in the packaging industry.
Akulon XP has a wider processing window
In multi-layer film applications, the rheological mismatch between polyamide and polyolefin layers can lead to production complexity and waste. Resolving this mismatch through equipment often results in extremely high investment costs.
Akulon XP provides a broader processing window because of the improved rheological match with polyolefins. Akulon XP matches the melt viscosity and melt elasticity of polyolefins over a wide shear rate range. The processing window is thus much wider than with regular polyamide and decreasing the dependency on solutions through hardware modifications.
The strong Polyamide 6 barrier and mechanical properties are maintained. The resulting film has improved layer thickness distribution, higher output and lower friction at high shear rates.
Akulon XP is energy efficient, with a good carbon footprint: This is achieved primarily through reduced energy usage during processing and the reduction of waste through even layer distribution and reduced neck-in.
DSM Engineering Plastics is a leading supplier of Polyamide for the film market globally. Our technical experts are supporting our customers to optimise their production process and to realize the maximum benefits with Akulon XP.
